Elk Grove citizens have unique opportunity in their community

If you have ever been interested in the procedures and techniques used by local law enforcement, then the Elk Grove Police Department wants you.

Starting Sept. 11 the EGPD will be holding a 13 week program known as the Citizens’ Academy.

This 13 week program is designed to inform and teach interested residents about the various aspects of municipal policing, according to the EGPD press release.

Citizens’ Academy is free and will be held on Wednesdays at the 8400 Laguna Palms Way in Elk Grove from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Participants must be 18 or older, live or work in Elk Grove and have no felony convictions. A background check will be completed before entering the academy, according to the press release.

According to the press release the Citizens’ Academy will cover procedures from patrol and investigation, vehicle operations, arrest and control techniques, 911 communications, code enforcement and animal control.
