The Hawks hosted their first pre-season home game on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. and fought a hard game against Lassen Community College, taking a loss of 3-1.

Cosumnes River College won the first set of their first home game with a score of 25-20, but Lassen managed to come back and win the second set 25-18, the third set 25-23 and the fourth set 25-17.

“We’re going to come back harder, this is just the beginning, right now we’re going to shake this off and come back,” middle hitter Saniyah Brooks said.

Brooks said the team gave up towards the end after their intense set, losing by two points in the third set.

Cassidy Pham, a right back defense specialist, said the game was close and the team did a good job of keeping their energy up, but that their defense struggled.

“I think the game overall was good. It was our first home game, so I think we were all a little nervous,” middle hitter Jillian Bosanek said.

Starting setter Nicole Risch also said the team was nervous, but that their energy kept them in the game as a team and was confident they would improve together.

Risch, Pham and Bosanek said that in their pre-season they are focusing on defense, especially when it comes to blocking.

“This year we have a bunch of outsides from different teams who are pretty consistent with their hits,” Risch said.

The team played another match at 5 p.m. against Los Medanos College.

“We’re going to win the next one, we’re going to win against Los Medanos I have a feeling,” Risch said.

The Hawks made a comeback later that day taking a win against Los Medanos College, 3-1.
