The softball team took a double loss against American River College 1-10 and 1-2 on Friday, extending their losing streak to four games.
The Hawks managed to score a run in the third inning of their first match with ARC scoring five runs in the seventh inning.
“I’m kind of disappointed,” said freshman infielder Charlize Fasula. “I’m kind of disappointed. I just know that our team has the capability to do better and win.”
In the third inning of the second game, freshman pinch hitter Isabella Hall scored the Hawks’ only run of the match.
Freshman pitcher Heather Briggs said the Hawks have been missing the one hit they need to win this season. Briggs said she tried to keep a positive attitude for her and her teammates.
Head coach Kristy Schroeder said the team’s main goal is to start working on playing tougher confidently.
“It was a rough loss, obviously in close games you want to win because you’re putting in a lot of hard work, but it was also a good loss because you can rise up from it,” Briggs said.
Fasula said she plans to focus on staying consistent at the plate and communicating better with her teammates in the next match.
“It comes down to momentum, that’s what softball is all about, getting up and staying up,” Fasula said.
In the second game freshman pitcher Ariana Fuentes shut down the opponents, holding ARC to one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sophomore outfielder Annabell Mendonsa said the team’s energy was a lot better this game and they battled more than in previous games this season.
Mendonsa said she is trying not to be discouraged after a rough couple of games but she hopes this will give the team energy to start focusing harder on their goals for future games.
Schroeder said the Hawks are going to practice more competitive drills on Monday before their next game to keep working on their confidence and attitude on the field. Schroeder said she applauds their opponents for playing well but it only gives the team more reason to build their confidence.
The Hawks are set to travel to play against Sacramento City College on Tuesday for their first matchup against the Panthers of the season.
