The Cosumnes River College baseball team was shutout 0-12 in a loss to Santa Rosa Junior College on Friday. As a result, the Hawks were swept in their three game series against the Cubs bringing them to a 2-4 conference record and 13-7 overall.
CRC rolled out freshman right handed pitcher Ty Collum to start the game. Collum dominated the first two innings, allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
On the hitting side, the Hawks’ lead off hitter, sophomore center fielder Chase Christenson, would line a single to start off. The proceeding two players hit into outs and Christenson was picked off to end the inning.
CRC made two more hits in the bottom of the second, but it wouldn’t lead to any runs.
The top of the third would be the start of the end for the Hawks, as Collum would allow two base runners leading to a two RBI double. Following the hit Collum was pulled, ending his day.
“I knew coming in I would pitch anywhere between two to five innings because we had our entire staff,” Collum said. “I was just gonna give them whatever they needed.”
Santa Rosa scored their third run of the inning off of an error by freshman first baseman Angelo Luna. CRC would finish with four errors on the day.
“You want to minimize mistakes especially against a team like this who can take advantage of those,” said assistant coach Harvey Hargrove.
CRC allowed three more runs in the inning off freshman right handed pitcher Jacob Schreiber.
Schrieber would be unable to finish the inning and would be relieved by freshman right handed pitcher Nik Rostak who would close out the inning.
Santa Rosa scored five more runs over the next two innings.
The Hawks would be held hittless until the bottom of the fifth where a single by Christenson would break the drought. Christenson ended the day tied with Luna for a team high in hits with two.
Freshman right handed pitcher Christian Bajjalieha pitched a scoreless sixth and allowed the last run of the game by Santa Rosa in the seventh.
CRC hit three consecutive singles in the top of the sixth to load the bases, but two consecutive strikeouts ended the inning. The team ended the game with seven hits in total.
Neither team would score from the eighth on, ending the game in Santa Rosa’s favor.
The Hawks later dropped another conference game against Sacramento City College 1-12 in an away game on Tuesday. The team will look to refocus in their next game against the Panthers at home on Thursday.
“We have to make sure we have good ABs going into our next conference games,” Christenson said. “We really just didn’t play our game all week.”
