The Transfer Center will host over 50 colleges and universities on the Cosumnes River College quad for Transfer Day on Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Transfer Day is held on all Los Rios campuses every fall semester. Students will have the opportunity to speak with admissions representatives, learn about different four-year institutions and receive information about the transfer process.
“Sometimes students don’t even get the opportunity to go and visit a campus,” Transfer Center Coordinator Megan Neves said. “It’s really nice to be able to get direct information from somebody, especially if you’re unable to access them at any other time.”
Both in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities will table at the event. Transfer specialist Emily Barkley said this requires a level of coordination between the Transfer Center and participating campuses.
“There’s a lot of planning that takes place prior to us even getting a scheduled date,” Barkley said. “It’s worth it because we want to make sure students have access to as many schools as possible.”
Neves encouraged all students, regardless of transfer status, to attend.
“It’s one of our favorite days here,” Neves said. “It’s a good portion of what we do: trying to make transfer accessible to students.”
The Transfer Center also connects students with admissions representatives, application workshops and online and in-person counseling sessions, Barkley said. She and Neves said these resources are meant to enlighten students by dispelling myths about the transfer process.
“As much as we would like it to be a super simple, streamlined process, that’s not always the case—there can be twists and turns along the path,” Barkley said. “We in the Transfer Center are here to help guide students through those twists and turns.”
Transfer Day dates and upcoming event information can be found on the Transfer Center website. The center is located at CC-252.
“Access is always key,” Neves said. “Come give us a visit. We love meeting students.”
