Everyone wants to do something for spring break, but not everyone can afford pricey vacations. Spring break for Cosumnes River College is from March 16-22. With academic and personal expenses, spending money on trips can be an issue. Here are several ways students can enjoy spring break, even on a budget:
Movies
There are many movies that will be in theaters this month with a variety of genres to choose from.
If you are in a spooky mood, there are a few horror movies you can watch over break.
“The Bride” is a gothic horror retelling of “Bride of Frankenstein” starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley. This movie has been playing in theaters since March 6.
“Scream 7” is the newest installment of the popular slasher franchise that follows Sydney Prescott as she has another run-in with Ghostface. However, the stakes are higher this time around as she tries to keep her daughter safe.
Not your style? Try “Hoppers,” a Pixar animated comedy about a girl who transfers her consciousness into a robotic beaver, in theaters now.
“Goat” is another animated comedy that follows a goat named Will in his journey playing pro roarball.
If you are in a romantic mood, “Reminders of Him” is a movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book and follows Kenna as she tries to reunite with her daughter after being released from prison. When she feels all hope is lost, she finds refuge in a local bar owner.
Tickets too expensive? All cinemas offer discounts every Tuesday, with ticket prices dropping to $6-$8.
TV Shows
Spring break is the perfect time to snuggle up and catch up on popular TV shows. There are so many bingeable shows on Netflix to watch from the comfort of your own home.
“Stranger Things” is a five-season sci-fi series that follows a group of friends as they navigate a world of monsters. The series just finished up with its last season, so now is the perfect time to watch.
“Bridgerton” is a regency-era series that follows a different family member each season as they find love. The show just released its fourth season that follows Benedict and is a Cinderella-style story.
“Love Is Blind” is a reality show where total strangers try to find their soulmates. The show just finished its tenth season with 12 episodes including a reunion special.
Hiking trails
Want to enjoy the sunshine without hurting your pockets? There are many hiking trails one can discover in Sacramento.
The Cosumnes River Preserve, located in Galt, is a moderate hike consisting of three different trails each ranging from one-mile to four-mile walks.
Lake Natoma Loop, located in Folsom, is an intermediate hike with an 11-mile walk.
Cardiac Hill, located near Auburn, is more challenging with rocky and steep paths with a 3.5-mile walk.
Spring Events
There are a few events happening during the break that students can attend.
If you haven’t gone to a Sacramento Kings game yet, now is your chance. The Kings are versing the San Antonio Spurs at the Golden One Center on March 17. Tickets may vary on the seat. The lowest price is $20 each using your .edu email.
Another event is a comedy show, taken place at The Callback Bar At Punch Line Comedy Club hosted by Marcus Mangham on March 18 . The lowest price is $14 each and you can find more information about other events and ticket prices here.
Relaxation
Not feeling like going anywhere? You could catch up on sleep that you feel is needed. Nothing is more important than your mental health. You could read that book you haven’t looked at in a while. Or binge watch a tv series that was expressed earlier.
What better way to spend spring break than with your friends? Maybe a walk or picnic at Elk Grove Park or North Laguna Creek Park? Or simply enjoying lunch inside.
Students can take the week and use it as a self-reboot, making sure that they are not overwhelmed or burned out from the semester. So, maybe the budget in your spring break is sleeping in and not going anywhere. You can enjoy your break whether it is a mental break or a week full of fun activities.
